MSA2324fc Fan status: Failed
------
EVENT:
Disk enclosure event: fault. (enclosure: 4, WWN: 5001438009495E80) fan 4, fan status: Failed EVENT ID:#B4750 EVENT CODE:168 EVENT SEVERITY:Error EVENT TIME:2011-05-23 03:17:46
------
Then 10 - 15 seconds later, the error clears.
In this case it reports on 'Fan 4' on enclosure 4, but enclosure 4 is a MSA70, and as far as I can tell, it only has 2 fans...
This also happens for the other enclosures(2 - 4 are all MSA70s) and for other fan numbers(1 - 4)
As far as I know, we're running with latest FW:
(controller A, B is the same)
Storage Controller Code Version M111R06
Memory Controller FPGA Code Version F300R22
Storage Controller Loader Code Version 19.009
Management Controller Code Version W441P28
Management Controller Loader Code Version 12.015
Expander Controller Code Version 1109
CPLD Code Version 8
----
2 Enclosure 2 A Left 2.18
2 Enclosure 2 B Right 2.18
3 Enclosure 3 A Left 2.18
3 Enclosure 3 B Right 2.18
4 Enclosure 4 A Left 2.18
4 Enclosure 4 B Right 2.18
----
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
It's especially annoying since the system also sends emails to higher ups who gets terrified...

Re: MSA2324fc Fan status: Failed
there is a newer one for the MSA2000 G2 - M112R14 (out on 5th of May 2011) but as far as I can tell revision history nor release notes mention 'fan' or 'blower':
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=3971478&swItem=MTX-9cf67d88ccc34194bdd3951338&prodNameId=3882362&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=5
Apparently this release allows 2.28 firmware on the MSA 70 - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3355735&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=3355734&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005
but as far as I can see, no mentions about fans/blowers there either. Except "Incorporated other minor miscellaneous firmware enhancements and fixes."
--
Are you running the MSA70s in dual domain (both controllers in the MSA2000 to each MSA70 enclosure) ? Or if not, maybe the problem is seen on one channel?
Maybe there are smaller fans inside the MSA70?
Has this been going on for a long time? Did it start after something etc?
Anyway, I would be inclined to believe that it is a firmware issue.

Re: MSA2324fc Fan status: Failed
I only have logged emails for the last couple of months, and can verify that it has been happening about once/month, but can't say for how long. (Before then someone else was the main contact, and he decided who got emails or not... which meant he often didn't bother to pass them on. I had the password for the Webinterface, but didn't really have time to log in too often, to check)
I'm inclined to believe it's a FW issue, too.
I'll see if I can do the FW upgrades tonight.
