Needs a real answer
(i.e. 4 servers with hba card each connect to the storage with fiber channel, the storage got 4 ports, and running either SAS/SATA disks due to budget constrain).
MY QUES; are there really substantial performance difference if I am going run I/O intensive application?
May be "SAS is better" BUT, company like Dell only have entry level product with supports SATA only and HP do not have this type of product.

you can combine the MSA1500 with MSA20 - this is SATA, see

SATA is okay for nearline-storage, but not for intensive I/O. SATA drives dont't like heavy random I/O. The heads and bearings of SATA drives don't have the same quality like SCSI/SAS/FC drives (plastic instead of metal and so on). The wastage is higher if a SATA disk will be used for highly random I/O. On the other hand: A SCSI/SAS/FC can deliver more IOPS then a SATA drive.
You get what you pay for. ;)
SATA is nice for disk-2-disk or low-level fileservices, but not for more.
