Replacement drive shows as degraded
Both controllers were at firmware level 4.34 when the problem appeared, I have since upgraded one controller to version 4.48 but this has had no effect.
Has anybody come across this before?
Initially I though it was the drive and replaced it again but know I have three examples of the same thing. The disks are running fine but I am uncertain...
Many Thanks
Richard

Re: Replacement drive shows as degraded
When your drives are showing a degraded status, is the fault light lit on the hard drive? If it isn't, then there is a solution. Please download and apply the Monitoring and Performance Patch Utility - SP16277; available at http://www.compaq.com/support/files/16001.html. This utility will eliminate the false degraded status and prevent the potential for the condition to reappear.
If the drive is actually bad, the fault light will appear on the drive. In that case, the only fix is to replace the drive. But if CIM is showing a degraded status and the fault light isn't lit, then this is a false degraded status. You should notice that the drive is still being used even though you are getting the degraded status in CIM.
Have a nice day,
Mike

Re: Replacement drive shows as degraded
I have run SP16277 on one of the servers but this has had no effect. Just to confirm the fault light is not on and the drive is running fine.
Are there any other possibitilties e.g. drive firmware etc.
Thanks for your response,
Richard

Re: Replacement drive shows as degraded
If your array controller firmware is up to date (SP16371) along with the hard drive firmware (SP16369) and you are still getting the "degraded" errors, then we'll need to replace your offending hard drives. If that is the case, please call 800-652-6672 and log a call to have the drives replaced.
Have a nice day,
Mike

Re: Replacement drive shows as degraded
According to the CIM information that you provided, one of the array controllers and at least 2 of the failed hdd's don't have the latest firmware. The latest firmware for the Smart 2DH is 4.48 (SP16371). Drive model number DCHS04Y currently has version 5151 can be upgraded to 5858 via SP16369. Drive model number AB0093346A currently has version 3A05 can be upgraded to 3A07 via SP16369. I have included the readme file from SP16369 which lists all the drive model numbers that it will upgrade and the firmware it will upgrade them to. I'm unable to locate a current firmware version for the drive model number ST19171WC.
If after the upgrades, you continue to have the problem, we should have the drives replaced.
Have a nice day,
Mike
