Smart Array 6402

I have a IBM xSeries 346 with a Smart Array 6402 in Slot 3 that is connected to a MSA20. Every time I boot, I am not able to configure the 6402 via F8 or any other key.

All it says is:

Slot 3 HP Smart Array 6400 Controller (192MB, v2.80) 0 Logical Drives

How would I configure the array from ORCA?

Re: Smart Array 6402

I do not like the "0 Logical Drives" part.
The Smart Array is not seeing the disks.

Try to reseat the cache module on the Smart Array, and the Smart Array itslef on the slot.
Check also the SCSI cable from the controller to the disk enclosure.

I will do that once I get back into work - thank you for the suggestions.

Re: Smart Array 6402

The server BIOS sees the 6402 but it probably lacks the interaction with it (escape option, F8). The "0 Logical Drives" is nor necessarily a problem, you probably don't have any LUNs created. Officially the 6402 is only supported on HP DL servers but that does not necessarily mean that it would not work on others. If you have any DL servers, compare the BIOS vendor with that of the x346. If they have the same vendor bios, see if your x346 can use a bios upgrade (from IBM). The 6402 is supported under windows so you may be able to use it in windows and create your LUNs there. After creating the LUNs you could use them as non boot devices or go back and install the OS on them if the BIOS allows it. However after that any issue with a boot device may potentially lock you out of the server if you still can not interact with the 6402 from the BIOS.
