SRDF & BCV's

Could someone please explain clearly or send any links related to SRDF and BCV's?. This is extremely urgent.

SRDF is used for replication in EMC whereeas BCV is used in XP storage. which storage u exactly using. I have add document for XP Raid Manager.

I couldnt able to attach docs. It give size error.

Just serch fot XP Raid manager document pon ITRC u will get doc for XP BCV

SRDF = EMC Symmetrix Remote Data Facility - disk based replication product.

BCV = EMC Business Continuance Volume - a copy of a LUN/disk in the same disk array (for EMC Timefinder) or a different disk array (EMC SRDF)

Neither have much to do with XP Disk arrays, except the equivalent of a BCV on a XP disk array is a Business Copy (or BC), which often gets confused with BCVs as they are functionally similar allbeit different products from different comapnies.

SRDF is the EMC product for replicating data between storage arrays. Obviously this requires sufficient bandwidth and the ability to communicate between remote arrays.

BCV (business continuance volume) is to put it simply the ability to attach an additional disk (i.e. another mirror disk); sync the data to the new mirror; and then split the disk off and mount it on another server. This can be completed automated by scripts and works great for making a good clean copy of production data and mounting them elsewhere for clean cold backups at your convenience. Product is called TimeFinder.
