vgchgid fails with IBM MetroMirror target

MetroMirror is equivalent to EMC BCVs.

Following successful copy from source to target disk, and attempt to run vgchgid (since we intend to use the target volume on the same host), the following error is presented

# vgchgid /dev/rdsk/c10t7d1
vgchgid: physical volume "/dev/rdsk/c10t7d1" must be one of the following.
1. A EMC BCV or EMC RDF2.
2. XP disk array CA_SVOL or XP disk array BC_SVOL.

Does this look like LVM patch issue ? I was thinking maybe a throwback to days when only volumes copied on EMC and Hitachi arrays were recognized by vgchgid.

If so does anyone know what minimum patch would be needed for support of *other* arrays capable of the 'BCV like' disk replication features ?
