Adding a HDD
Hi:
I'm having probs locating the proper "slot" for an additional HDD that I want to install on my Pavilion 6701.
The HP online resource for the 6701 indicates that an extra HDD should be installed on top of the one that's already installed, but I can't seem to find an extra space either above or below my current HDD.
Should my extra HDD be installed somewhere else inside? There is an empty slot directly below the slot containing the CD drive, but the cables I've tried to use aren't anywhere near long enough to be "attached" to where they should (if that makes sense!).
If someone could email me even a rough drawing of where the new CDD should be installed, I think that would help greatly!
my email: mikebrown@useoz.com
Thanks!

Re: Adding a HDD
Try this link:
http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=hppavilion23247&LC=personal_computing&Tfile=bph03429
It states that there should be an empty slot adjacent to your current hard drive. If not, you may need to purchase a longer cable from a local PC shop. You can also order parts like that online from many websites.
Good luck!

No matter where you go, there you are.

Re: Adding a HDD
Thanks, Vincent.
Yes, I had seen that article on HP's site re extra HDDs. The only spare bay on my model HP PC, however, is right below the CR-ROM drive, and that's a looong way from the HDD that's currently installed.
I have got a longer cable, but the additional plug on it is located in such a way that, if I connect one end of the cable to my current HDD, I can't connect that extra "plug" to my 2nd HDD (configured as per above).
I'm a newbie at all this, but how would I go, do you think, if I bolted (or somehow affixed) the extra HDD right below the current drive?
Thx!

Re: Adding a HDD
Hi again, Vincent:
problem solved - had a chat to my PC retailer and ended up affixing the extra HDD to the floor of the PC case. Got everything connected and, after some initial probs (due to my not remembering to change jumper settings :-[ ), it is working fine.
When I re-booted, I did notice that my drive letters had changed, to my chagrin..I found an excellent app at ZDNet called Letter Assigner v 1.1.2 that fixed that particular prob - I recommend it to anyone who finds themselves in the same predicament.
Thx!
Mike
