Bulk packaging?
This is probably not the right place to ask, but...
Would it be possible to get the SFF 2.5" SAS disks in bulk packaging?
I mean, there's probably room for a dozen disks in a box if you cram them in without the plastic endcaps, right?
So stuffing 4,6 or even 12 HDDs into a box made for the purpose of holding a set can't be that difficult?
(Yeah, just got delivery of 10 HDDs slated for two new servers, and the crate they came in is almost as large as the crate the servers usually come in)
Even a 'twin-pack' would help reduce the volume, and probably a lot of waste, too.
(Would make shipping cheaper, too)
And at the same time, is there any way those endcaps could be replaced by cardboard?
(After all, toner carts use cardboard endcaps in the packaging)

Re: Bulk packaging?
in the past, I HAVE seen bulk packaging for hard drives. It would make "perfect" sense for a company to not waste soo much cardboard and packing material when having to ship out dozens of drives to one location.
I feel that there should be a part number in Sales Builder that you can specify for bulk shimpemt of items...
This does not only go for Hard Drives, but many things...
HBA's, Memory, power supplies.
I wonder how much money would be saved in materials if there was a box that could hold 6 or 12 hdd's for customers that order them in bunches...

Re: Bulk packaging?
Hello,
I don't think that HP will issue bulk packages for end customer. If you want to reduce the amount of waste, buy factory integration. ;)
But I can understand you. My employer is system integrator and you can't imagine how much plastic, carton and foils can be produced by a dozen DL380 or DL360, some disks, BBWC, controllers, memeory etc.
Regards,
Patrick

Re: Bulk packaging?
The problem is that 'Factory integration' doesn't work with equipment already onsite.
We're in the process of upgrading from W2K/W2003 to W2008 on all our servers, and as the best way of doing that is to wipe the system and do a reinstall(Rotating in a 'spare' server for the new install, then using the old one for the next server in line), and at the same time we thought it might be prudent to upgrade storage and such on the servers...
We also have SANs in my organisation(a lot of companies and organisations have SANs or just disk shelves connected to their servers) and on these it's impractical to ship the equipment to HP if you want to replace older 72 or 146GB disks with 300GB or better.
