cannot install another IDE-ATA HD
I have a Proliant ML330 Server with a SCSI HD and a IDE ATA. It boots from SCSI (Id 0) where W2K 2003 is installed. Then, IDE ATA is used for data storage.
However, we bought a Seagate Barracuda IDE ATA HD and tried to placed as slave of the first IDE. Unfortunately, once we reboot the machine apparentely trid to boot from the IDE (which one we do not know). We tried all combination possible (Master-Slave, Cable Select, etc)
Therefore we are researching how to set two-IDE array and still making able to boot correctly from SCSI.
Besides, we connecto this new IDE HD to Secondary IDE slot, but we found out it was disable from BIOS, tried to enable it but it requires IRQ 15 to be placed. However IRQ 15 is taken by the SCSI drive.

Re: cannot install another IDE-ATA HD
Hi,
concerning the IRQ. Have you run out of them? Can't you reassign one, if it does not automatically?
I have looked into the manuals. I assume, that you have the first generation and not the second or third.
In page 4-8 of ML330 Server Setup and Installation guide on this page:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?contentType=SupportManual&locale=en_US&docIndexId=179911&taskId=110&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=254931
you see the cabling of ATA disks. They are to be configured as cable select.
On page 1-13 you see how to select the primary boot controller.
hope this helps,
Michael
