SolutionATA - The standard PC Hard drive interface that has been around for years (IDE)
SATA - Serial ATA is a newer PC Hard drive interface that is quickly taking over the "ATA" stronghold. SATA is faster than ATA and runs at about 150MB/s. SATA-II, which was recently announced, runs at 300MB/s.
PATA - Parallel ATA is the same as ATA or IDE. The old standard for connecting Hard Drives (40 pin connector)
FATA - FATA is a Fibre connectted ATA drive. Usable on systems that have a Fibre based backplane ( the EVA for instance).

Re: comparision ata and sata and pata and fata
just to add something to Ted's answer from real life.
We're experiencing most of the drive failures on EVA mostly on 250GB FATA. It's not really designed for 24/7 operations, so we are planning some data migration to avoid heavy and constant load on that group.

Re: comparision ata and sata and pata and fata
Its interesting reading your comments regarding the EVA FATA 250GB drive failures, because we are experiencing the same where we are having continous drive failures on a reqular basis. Are you replacing your EVA FATA 250GB drives and if so with what?

Re: comparision ata and sata and pata and fata
since some EVAs are under waranty period and we have support agreement, we keep replacing failed disks for new ones. We think of reconfiguring VDISK layout, so that mostly archive and low load servers will use space on FATA.
But another issue is cloning to this group.
Which generates fairly high activity through leveling.
HP support says, that we should upgrade to VCS 3.028 (currently we have 3.025) together with latest disk fw (we are two versions back). That might solve part of the problem. What versions you have?
