Disk compatibility between K3xx and K5xx series?

These disks were removed from K360 and K380 servers:

HP P/N A4909-67002
HP P/N A4909-64001
HP P/N A5282-60050

Can anyone confirm that these disks are going to be compatible with the K580 where I want to transfer them? or point me to a contact that would know. I also their Seagate p/ns and serial numbers as well in needed Thanks!!

Hi,

Could not find any information about your specific product numbers but, as a general answere, disks is compatible if connected to the correct SCSI bus (LVD,HVD or SE). HVD devices is not compatible with any other type but LVD and SE devices can be mixed on the same bus with some limitations in speed and cable lenght.

The disks used in the K3xx and K5xxx are the same. Firmware might need to be updated to the same level on each server. The internal drives were FWD (Fast Wide Differential, a.k.a. High Voltage Differential). Most external SCSI disk for the K-class were also FWD drives.

All internal HP 9000 "K" class FWD 68-pin 7200 rpm disk drives are interchangeable. The A5282 drives that you have there is a 10k RPM LVD drive and it cant go internally into the K class servers, the A4909's will work in all K boxes

you can get up to a 180GB drive internally into the 9000 "K" class servers so you could max your K boxes out with 720GB suing 4 of the 180GB FWD SCSI-2 internal disk drives.

I never saw a 180GB FWD drive, and that was certainly not supported in the K-class. Did a decimal point get lost and it should have read 18.0 GB? I thought 36 was the largest supported drive, but I would have to look it up.

Re: Disk compatibility between K3xx and K5xx series?

there really 180GB drives, its not a HP maintenance supported drive but they work in the 9000 K boxes and the e3000 MPE 9x9KS boxes. We have been selling them for about a year and a half, they have a 1-year warranty and we haven't had any problems with them. There is one on ebay: # 5732635201 if you want to check it out.
