Disk drive replacement

I am new to UNIX so please forgive me if I do not have the terminology down pat. I have an rp5470 with two fiber channel cards connected to an FC60 connected to two SC10's that are fully poplulated. Configured using hardware RAID, each disk is mirrored to another. I have one bad drive that needs to be replaced. I have been digging through documentation and it would seem that all that I need to do is to swap the disk and it should rebuild itself. However, since this is the first time that I have done this I want to be sure that there are no hidden quirks that I need to look out for. Any advice would be helpful.

If it is truely a disk failure, a disk swap will do. As a precaution, backup your data. :)

Re: Disk drive replacement

Hi There,
Check your SC10 Enclosure LED status, if it is showing red then open the enclosure and look out for the faulty disk in that enclosure by tracing the disk LED's again.
You can also confirm the same if you have SDM ( Storage Device MAnager) installed and just invoke the GUI and see the disk status directly.
Since it is configured in RAID (Mostly RAID0/1,RAID1 or RAID5) then simply go ahead and pull out the faulty, reinsert new one and it will start building automatically.
See if you have any SWAP disk configured in your FC60.

Hope that helps.

Re: Disk drive replacement

The disk is only showing yellow. Do I need to follow different procedures or can I still just swap it? My plan is to have all users off of the system while I do it.

Re: Disk drive replacement

Update: Just wanted to let you guys know that everything went smoothly this weekend. I pulled the disk, put the new one in, flash yellow, flash green, solid green, rebuild started. Thanks again for your assistance.
