It seems to be no problem when I reset the host and the enclosure, but when time goes by (last error since a week), I get SCSI errors. I already have tried to change disks (but with the same capacity) and this not resolve the problem.
Please, any help will be appreciated.

Re: Disk system 2100 and 146GB U320 scsi
"The DS2100 will support new Ultra320 drives that will replace the existing capacity and performance points,
but only at Ultra160 transfer rates. The DS2100 will not be able to support the new Ultra320 capacity and
performance points, and will not support Ultra320 73-GB 15K RPM or Ultra320 146-GB 10K RPM drives.
Additionally, both enclosures will only support host connectivity at U160 performance levels."

Re: Disk system 2100 and 146GB U320 scsi
Also, does hardware document of DS2100, says that you can put such disks into it?

Re: Disk system 2100 and 146GB U320 scsi
As i previously said in another post, i believe the disks run too hot and that is why they are not supported and may keep failing. the ds2100 has very bad cooling which is needed for the newer faster disks
these are disks supported according to

Are the 146gb disks you are using HP ones? if so what is the product number?

SolutionDS2100, DS2110 and DS2120.
Each is supporting different HDDs, but all at maximum speed 160.
max HDD size for DS2100 is 73GB.
You need at least the DS2110 model to use 146 GB disks.
Have a look at the quickspecs:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12025_div/12025_div.html
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Disk system 2100 and 146GB U320 scsi
You could always use an MSA30 as it just a fairly simple scsi disk enclosure. The Disk enclosures themselves are more expensive than the DS series but the disks for them are way cheaper and at those prices I would go for a MSA30DB with 4x73GB and use LVM to stripe & mirror for speed & redundancy.

Re: Disk system 2100 and 146GB U320 scsi
OK, my 2 cents.
To address the "support" of hard drives.
Technically, SCSI wise, whether a drive can be used, you have proven you can use the drive. Technically, hardware wise, concerns about the power supply's ability to produce enough power for 4 drives would be a reason to say that the enclosure does not "support" a drive. This you could verify from the old drives power requirements .vs. the new drive. Also the point of tempurature is also valid. But it is our experience that the older drives that are "supported" used twices as much power and ran incredibly hot. The drives today use little power and run VERY cool. One reason is the platter data densities have increased 4 times. A single platter disk today is 73GB, so your 146GB disk is equivilent to the support lists 36GB drive of old.
As for the SCSI Errors.
As mentioned I would suspect the controller or the 2100 itself. This is a communication thing, not a physical drive thing. I know we have had trouble with our 2100 and had to replace it when something went south on the circuit board.

Thats why they are unsupported.
See my earlier posting.
Hope this helps!
