Drive diagnostics available?
I have two of these drives that I recently purchased. Both of them, at startup, spin up, beep, spin down, ... nine times, and then the controller reports a failure. I have a ProLiant storage system with the hot-plug version of these drives that operate correctly.
I went to the Seagate site (being that they are Seagate drives underneath) and they had a process chart that said that you should download and run their utility if the drive would not spin up properly. Of course, being that the SCSI vendor string is "COMPAQ" and not "SEAGATE", the utility would not diagnose the problem.
So, first question:
Is there such a utility available for COMPAQ drives
second question:
Are the drives going to turn out defective whether I use the utility or not?
third question:
I bought these drives used. Is there any chance they're still under warranty?
Thanks...

Re: Drive diagnostics available?
You can use Compaq Server Diagnostics to test the drive, but are you install this in a non-Compaq system?

Re: Drive diagnostics available?
Yes, this is being installed in a non-Compaq system. It is a Pentium Pro - based system. I have not yet had the chance to test whether the server diags will work.
