Drive not recognized

I am trying to install a Maxtor Diamond Max 30Gb hard drive model # 53073H6 on a 550Mhz AMD Athlon with a Gigabyte GA-7ix MB with 128Mb of SD100 RAM under the Windoze 98 operating system release 2.

The problem is that the drive is recognized by the Bios just fine and at the proper size as a UDMA66 drive (yes it's an Ultra 100 drive, but my MB is not), BUT the operating system does not see it.

The drive is configured as cable select and is installed on a pull out tray. The other drive that is installed on a pull out tray works just fine in the same tray.

I've checked and rechecked the jumpers. I've upgraded the MB to the latest rev of the BIOS.

Specs for the drive may be found at http://www.maxtor.com by entering the model # 53073H6

Any suggestions?

Re: Drive not recognized

So far it is not recognized as a drive, even by Fdisk, only by the BIOS.

Re: Drive not recognized

make sure the jumper settings are set correctly - incorrect jumper settings can cause the HD to appear in your BIOS but can cause conflicts when trying to access the drive. Also... If you still can't get it to work, try taking it out and putting it in another machine running Windows 98 and partition and format it in that machine... then remove, set the jumpers for your machine, and reinstall.
