DS2100 dual port clarification

If I purchase a DS2100 which has 2 SCSI interfaces does it make sense to purchase a dual port HBA allowing me to do I/O through one and setup a PVlink through the other for higher avail. or is the other interface on the DS2100 only used to daisy chain to another DS2100...please advise

Re: DS2100 dual port clarification

It's intended for daisy-chaining.

A dual-port HBA will buy you very little, IMHO.

Better would be 2 individual SCSI cards.

Why? If one fails, the other might be able to take over (via PVLinks). If you use a dual-port card, and the card dies, well, the whole card dies (both channels).

Besides, as reliability goes, hard drives are the worst, next is the SCSI card itself, then cabling and teminators, and finally the DS2100 itself. So, if a cable or terminator goes, your PVLinks are useless, because the bus is broken.

You would be much better served with 2 DS2100's, each on their own SCSI card. Mirror the drives in one to the drives in the other. This way, you're protected regardless of what fails.

Good luck,
