DS2405 switch settings

Hello Everyone,

I have a ds2405 with two controller cards in it for redundancy. Each controller is connected to a seperate 2 Gig A6795A Fiber card on an rp4440 running HP-UX 11i Version 1.

I have 10 disks in it and I would like to mirror the drives across the two controllers on the ds2405 but it only seems to see all disks on one controller or fiber card.

What am I missing?

I see that there are "ID" settings on the back of the controller cards and they are both set to zero.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Tim

Re: DS2405 switch settings

Did you connect each cable to only one controller?

The ID switch is used for an array extension only, doesn't matter here.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: DS2405 switch settings

Hi Torsten,

Yes each controller is plugged into a seperate A6795A card. The system sees both fc cards but only one of the controllers on the ds2405 is giving me an activity light.

I currently have both fc cables plugged into port 1 of each controller card on the A6795A

I have also noticed that one of the fc cards does not have the lnk/spd light on. If I switch the cables on the controller cards the problem seems to follow the controller card.

So on the ds2405 on controller 1 I can always get a lnk/spd light on the A6795A but on the controller 2 I do not.

This is why I was questioning the switch settings or the port in which the fc cable was plugged into.

Re: DS2405 switch settings

There are 2 important switches:

- the rotary switch outside - setting the ALPA address range (important if you daisy chain several JBODS)

- the internal speed switch (1Gb/s vs. 2 GB)

That's it.

You can try to swap the GBICs and get the status information from STM.

Do you know how to do this?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: DS2405 switch settings

My last entry may have been confusing...

Regardless of which A6795A card is plugged into controller 2 on the DS2405 the link activity light on the controller will not stay on and the lnk/spd light on the A6795A will not come on.

I wonder if controler 2 is bad on th ds2405?

Re: DS2405 switch settings

Try to get the STM info and try to cross swap the GBICs (the adapter plugged into the LCC (controller card).

Hope this helps!

Re: DS2405 switch settings

> Here is what stm looks like after I switch the cables around

So you only swapped the cable and NOT the GBICs right?

It looks like a bad cable. Before swaping, STM showed 0/2/1/0 as the unknown disks and 0/6/1/0 as the good disks.

After the cable swaping, the good disks show up on 0/2/1/0. Apparently the GBICs are OK so if you have a another fiber cable, try it out.

Re: DS2405 switch settings

Hi Torsten,

No this is not resolved. I just recieved a new LCC card and installed it but now I cannot see any disk drives.

I have both LCC cards set to 0 and have rebooted several times but no luck seeing the drives.
