Hard drive and Recovery disk problems.
For about 2 years I have been having problems with my hard drive getting bad sectors, now the hard drive is to the point where the sectors are causing me to loose dll files. When I try to use the recovery disk I get a message that a file that allows recovery of files has a missing file. I have a HP 6635 desk top computer with a 98 SE Operating Systems. I bought this computer in April of 1999.
I am wondering if I should replace the hard drive or look for a new computer.
I thank you for any help and replys I receive.
Michele from PA.

Re: Hard drive and Recovery disk problems.
YOu don't have to get a entire new computer if you are comfortable with installing a new HD yourself (or are willing to pay a computer stire to do it). Buying and installing the new HD are very simple tasks. If you have your data backed up somewhere, and your recovery disk will let you do a full restore of the OS to "like new" condition, I would go that route. I'm not familiar with that particular model, but you'll need an ATA-style drive (not SATA), and you'll want to check HP support online or phone to find out the largest-size drive you can put into the machine. With some older computers, you can buy a drive that is larger than the computer's BIOS can recognize. But I would not buy an entirely new PC for one bad piece, unless you are looking for an excuse to buy a whole new PC anyway :)
