HDD Problems

My friend has a Pavillian XL756 series, and we've just installed a 40GB Western Digital Hard Drive.

I put the Windows 2000 Pro CD in, and it detects the HDD and copies the files, etc. But when I try booting from the Hard Drive, it tells me there is No OS Installed.

Could this be a BIOS problem (I.E. HDD is too big for the BIOS), or a general motherboard problem?

Re: HDD Problems

1. How did you install the drive? Is it the only drive in the system? What is the jumper configuration? Did you configure it as master or slave? Remember, if it is the only drive on the IDE channel then you should not specify the master/slave configuration

2. What is the file system type you choose during OS installation? What is the size of partition you install OS to? Is it marked as active?

Yes, please start with BIOS upgrade http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=20895&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=46166&prodTypeId=12454
Check this disk in another PC if it will work (boot) from it
