Hot Plug A5238A?

I have a HA Disk Enclosure-A3312A that I would like to plug a A5238A 9GB Differential Fast Wide SCSI hard drive module into while the system is up and running.

Is this possible? The only other thing in this enclosure is a mirror of the root disk. If I try and hot plug this drive, do I risk bringing down the system?

Thanks!

Re: Hot Plug A5238A?

typically anythiing with a handle can be hotplugged at the hardware level. In most cases the OS will need to be configured for switchover etc.

There is no chance of bringing down your OS on addition of a drive, (incorrect disk drive removal may cause problems ;) )

Run ioscan -fnC disk after adding the drive... but be careful, this command will take some resources.. do it during low activity. Then insf -eC disk or insf -Cdisk -I to add the device file.

Re: Hot Plug A5238A?

It is never recommended to install a new Jamaica disk HOT cause if address switch set wrong can cause that whole scsi channel to go offline that's why it best to schedule down-time.

Address switch? Are you talking about the SCSI ID? That should be set in the enclosure not on the drive.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Hot Plug A5238A?

Hi Justin

Yes the address switch or ir the SCSI id switch is in the back of the box just near every disk slot , the porblem is that they ahve to be unique , if two of the tem are set to the same address and you are trying to put the drive into one of the them and the other is occupied then it can bring the system down , so verify the switches befreo putting in the drive.

It worked just fine. The two systems I added the 9GB disks to are K210. Drives are being used.

Thanks to all who replied.
