moving hard drive to a new computer

I currently have a hp 667 mhz, 20 gb hard drive with windows xp. I am getting a athlon xp 1800 with an ecs elite motherboard. Is there a way that I can just move the hard drive in my old computer to my new computer. I don't want to reinstall everything or buy a new one. Please help.

Re: moving hard drive to a new computer

Derek,

The biggest issue will be drivers, especially since you have some hardware differences between the two. Though, I'm inclined to say go for a new drive, because you should be purchasing a new license for windows XP.

Make your HP 667 a linux box!

Hi there.
Harry's recommendation is not too bad.
Why not make it a double boot machine ?
If you are used to work with MS software, install WinXP and take about 6 to 8 GB for a Linux system to get familiar with it ?
Recommendation is Mandrake vers. 9, because it is easy to install and provides all features necessary.
