Nike20 IBM 4G drives
Hi,
I'm decommisioning a few Nike20s and would like to know if its possible to use the IBM 4G drives in a K class and/or PC with suitable firmware upgrade?
If so is the firmware upgradeable via ODE?
Later,
Bill

Re: Nike20 IBM 4G drives
No, The Nike drives have a different low level format and firmware than JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks). Even if removed from their module enclosure you will not be able to use them for anything else.
Plan for the future and tomorrow will take care of itself.

Re: Nike20 IBM 4G drives
Dear Bill,
i think there should be no problem to use the
Nike20 IBM 4G drives in the K-Class.
Even if they are low level formated in a different way you can always use the mediainit
command to do a low level format (Which is unsupported) but if you dont have anything better to do with those drives you dont have
nothing to loose.
regards,
Kostas

Re: Nike20 IBM 4G drives
strangely enough the Seagate drives 2G work no problem in either PC or K taken direct from the nike20s with no firmware upgrade...
It was just with the IBMs that I've had difficulty. The only difference I believe exists between the 2 other than f/w is a different block size.
