old Jamaica disks

Hi,

weve got lots of old Jamaica hotswap disk drives but we dont have a Jamaica unit for them anymore. Theyre all FWD. Can we use these disks on something else or are they for the bin ?

Re: old Jamaica disks

You sure can. You need to open the enclosure, remove the disk, and you will see it has an SCA connector for which you can easily buy a small adapter to convert it to 68pin or 50pin which means you can use it on an SE controller or a FWD or even a 68pin Ultra SCSI controller. We do here without any problems at all, using them in old workstations with only SE controllers up to C class with Ultra SCSI.
You can get these convertors at most big electronic stores or computer spares shops, theyre not expensive.

You can also sell these on Ebay.

Re: old Jamaica disks

These disk modules will also work in a D class running similar disks (DF).

Re: old Jamaica disks

Me too. We still use the Jamaica set up on our 9000. I had to replace an 8gig drive last week.
