Pocket Media Drive crashes system

Recently purchased an HP pocket media drive (500GB). When I insert the drive into the pocket media drive bay the system hangs forcing me to reboot holding the power button down. HP support as usual was of no assisance.

Disabled ready boost service and that cured the problem for about two weeks but the system started to crash again upon insertion of the media drive. Media drive works fine with the USB cables.

Running windows vista ultimate (64).

Anyone had a similar experience or a fix to this issue.
