SMART: ..... is going to FAIL

On our LP2000r, with a NetRaid-2M RAID Controller an 3 disks (RAID 5) SCO OpenServer 5.0.6, we get sometimes the message: "SMART: Adapter 0, Channel 0, Target 0: is going to FAIL.". Upon which information means the utility that this disk is going to fail? Is it really so? Can we do something to verify the message?

I'm not sure that netraid controller utilities allow you to view disk log pages, looks like it simply passes on SMART event to you. Others utilities will not allow you to view - read http://www.santools.com/smart/eval.html , it says "The windows release does NOT support any disks behind RAID controllers", thus RAID controller software is the only one who can show you stats.
You, of course, can do full backup of the data, get disk out of RAID and connect it to any SCSI compatible controller directly and try to run 3rd party software to get log pages.
Anyway, I think it's much harder than replace disk. SMART is "Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology" and I would believe SMART events that disk feels not good

A drive with SMART capability reports it's emminent failure all by itself. It's based on a number of factors, mostly things like error rates.
