termination issues ?

I'm having trouble getting an L and the N class to pick up some SC10 storage. I haven't connected both hosts as yet as I wanted to make sure I could at least see the disk from one machine. Reading the sc10 manual I have terminated scsi b on the bcc that has the cable connected with a 5021-1121 terminator and connected to scsi a on the dual port card.(full bus mode) This however isn't working. If I connect the storage to the core i/o on the N class it picks it up fine, this suggest to me it may be the termination on the dual port cards ? I understand that they are auto-terminating. I read this as not having to terminate the connection that isn't in use, is this correct ?

Also

I understood about having to change the id from a 7 to a 6 for one of the hba's when connecting both hosts. The next question I have is something else that I have read from the manual

"If Service Guard clustering is to be introduced then “Inline-terminated” SCSI cables should be used to connect the each server to the SC10’s to each of the nodes/serves. This would require ”auto-termination” to be disabled on the host SCSI adapters"

The cables I am currently using don't have anything on them that tells me what type of cable it actually is.

To disable auto termination I would need to move the jumper from its normal position (on only one of the pins in the pair) to its shorted position (jumpering both pins in the pair).

Am I on the right tracks with this ?

Re: termination issues ?

Hi Steven - I posted this response on the HP-UX thread - but it seems to have disappeared!!! Here it is again:

Hi Steven

Well, the terminator part no. is correct. As far as the dip switches are concerned (on the BCC) are they all set to 1? They should be for full-bus mode and one BCC. The Tray ID should be 0 (set by circular switch on the BCC).

As far as SCSI addresses are concerned, in full-bus mode the disks will be allocated thus (disk_slot:SCSI_ID):

0:0 2:1 4:2 6:3 8:13
1:8 3:9 5:10 7:11 9:12

IDs 6 and 7 should be used for the host card(s) as they appear free. How do these show-up with an 'ioscan -fC ext_bus'?

All the best - Keith

Hi

Just had chance to look at this again. Checking further , I have HVD cards when in fact I need to LVD to be compatible with the sc10 !!
