Ultra 2 and Macs
I bought an HP 9.1 GB hard drive, serial no. DDRS-39130, P/N: 22L0313, MLC: F21933 opn e-Bay. It was advertised as being unused and it came in an HP tray that appears to be intended for use as removal drive for a server. I use Macs exclusively, and I have used SCSI-2 drives in external enclosures before. When I put this one in an enclosure, the Mac will not recognize that it is even present, even though it powers up. A note on the back of the drive says that Ultra SCSI is not supported in External System/6, and refers the user to the HP home page for information. I didn't find any info, so I decided to use the forum. Is there anyone who knows how to get this drive recognized on a Mac running OS 9.1? Thanks, Dr.Bob

Re: Ultra 2 and Macs
Did you set the scsi address? You really need the documentation on the drive, but I didn't have much luck finding anything for that.

Re: Ultra 2 and Macs
Hi,
Your message was a bit misleading in that the Manufacturer part number is the DDRS-39130 number. Which makes it an IBM Ultrastar drive. The following link is to a Dell page on the jumper settings for the drive:
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/storage/ibm9scsi/Jumpers.htm
I did not find any termination settings for the drive. But that is also a common issue that causes a Mac to not see a SCSI drive or otherwise act weird.
Scott.
