Web Accessibility - Avoid contrast errors on your webpage

Meeting Accessibility guidelines in terms of contrast is very important to ensure an inclusive experience to users with visual impairments and disabilities.

In order to meet the guidelines there are three key items to consider:

  • font color
  • background color
  • font size

Large size text (typically considered above 19px and bold) should have a contrast ratio of 3:1 between the font color and the background color. Smaller sized text should have this contrast ratio higher, at least 4.5:1.

To learn more on the contrast guidelines check the WCAG guidelines: 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (Level AA) | WCAG
