Cloning factory drive

I have a recent vintage HP with a factory installed 1 TB WD Green drive (5500 rpm). I have installed a 1 TB Seagate (7200 rpm) to which I would like to clone the original drive and use it as the primary as it is a faster drive.

The factory drive contains two partitions, one of which has the compressed OEM Vista software. When using the Seagate Disk Wizzard software that came with the drive, it proports to be able to clone the original drive to the new drive. The software appears to run to completion, but on reboot the new drive is blank, with no partitions or data.

Is the OEM disk protected in some way to prevent cloning? Is it possible to do what I am attemptiong?
