Counter for total bytes written to a HP SAS drive
Hi, We have a bunch of HP server with smartarray controllers and HP SAS drives on them. We want to replace those drives with new SAS SSD disks, but I am not sure if they will wear out soon.
Those SAS drives where in place for a while. So if there was a counter for total bytes written to any drive so far, I would have an estimate for expected lifetime of an SSD.
I wonder if any such counter exists and if Smart Array Configuration utility can display it.

Re: Counter for total bytes written to a HP SAS drive
Array Diagnostics Utility has this section in its report Monitor and Performance Statistics (Since Factory); and among others there is a Sectors Written item. It is a hex value, for example for one of my drives it is reported like 0x00000003a3ce3819
I wonder how can I relate this to total Bytes written on the disk, I mean do I need to find out the sector size ad multiply it by this value?

Re: Counter for total bytes written to a HP SAS drive
In general, an SSD drive will last MUCH longer than a SAS drive with moving parts, but as far as your question goes i'm not too sure if there is a way to tell how many sectors have been written over its lifetime. There should be a date of manufacture printed on the drive itself, which could give you a 'better-than-nothing' estimate
