HSZ70 array controller problem

We recently have had a number of power blinks that have raised havoc with devices that are not on UPS. The problem that I am writing about pertains to HSZ70 controllers in BA370
enclosures.

After the previously mentioned power blinks the
enclosures had been powered off for several days as they were not actively being used at the time, thus draining the cache batteries.

Upon attempting to return the units to service I discovered that the CLI reported "invalid cache -- CLI command set reduced". When it said "command set reduced" it was serious. There are hardly any CLI commands available.

The hsz70 controllers are configured in transparent failover mode.

By shutting down the secondary controller, the primary controller is again equipped with a full command set but if the second controller is brought back online the command set is again reduced on both controllers.

If I shut down the primary (reverse the process) the second controller still shows CLI command set reduced.

It looks like perhaps the second controller needs to have its' configuration cleared out.

Any ideas how I can get both controllers funtional again?

Randy,

You need to clear the invalid cache condition on the controller that is reporting the problem. You can use the 'show this' command to see which controller is reporting the invalid cache. The command is:

clear_errors this_controller invalid_cache nodestroy_unflushed_data

You need to type the whole command without abreviations.

This command sometimes has problems with mirrored cache, so if you have mirrored cache and the above command doesn't work, then unmirror the cache, clear the error and re-mirror the cache (BTW both controllers reboot when you mirror the cache).

If you have a power outage in future you can press and hold the small button on the front of the cache battery until the light stops flashing, this disbales the battery and stops is from draining it's charge.
