LVD/SE SCSI cable lengths
Hi,
I have a question regarding cable lengths between SCSI devices.
We currently have an old 2200MX Optical library. It has a SE SCSI-1 controller which allows cables of up to 3m in length.
We also have an RX8420 with an Ultra2-wide LVD/SE PCI. This allows cable lengths of up to 12m.
The question I have is the maximum cable length if I connect the library to the server? I'm looking to install a cable longer than 3m and as far as I'm aware, the length goes by the PCI SCSI card's voltage?
Will the SCSI controller internally to the library change the mode of the server PCI card from LVD/SE to SE?
If the mode is changed will it reduce the max cable length (I.E. run at a lower voltage)?
My initial thoughts are no, and a cable above 3m and below 12m will work ok, but I'd like a second opinion.
Regards,
Ewan

Re: LVD/SE SCSI cable lengths
If the speed shifts down to SE, IMHO all the SE rules apply.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
