Newbie Q: HP Ultra3 SCSI drive + adaptec 2940W/UW?

I've recently bought a (second-hand) HP Ultra3 SCSI drive (9.1Gb, model DPSS-309170) for my digital audio workstation.

Being new to internal SCSI drives, I went out and bought an Adaptec 2940W/UW SCSI Adapter, however now I have no idea how to connect these two pieces of equipment up. The cable I got with my SCSI card is 50 pin, but I'm beginning to think I need a 68pin cable.

Do I then need to get an adapter to convert 68 pin to 80 pin for the HP drive?

Shanan,

Take a look at http://www.adaptec.com/tools/selectors/cables.html.

This tool tells you what cable to use.
The Harddisk is 68 Pins, Ultra3 Low Voltage Differential SCSI.
Does your controller has 68 or 50 pins?
If it has got 50 pins, then you have a problem: it won't work on a 68 pins (wide) SCSI device.
An adaptec 29160 is better for this type of disk (but also a little bit more expensive). This will also let the disk run at Ultra3 SCSI speed.

Hope this helps.
