Gurus-

Re: persistant binding

I think , persistant binding is a feature od the fabric switch and is controlled from the switch itself . Nothing to do with the OS .

Re: persistant binding

CISCO switches can provide 'FCID persistence' where the FCID can be tied a specific WWN even if the node is plugged to a different switch port. Some operating systems support persistent binding based on the WWN or FCID of the target port (driver setting in Windows) or the LUN WWN (Tru64 Unix).

Secure Path can provide some kind of independence, because it creates a new 'pseudo device', e.g. for HP-UX or Linux, that is not changed. I think at least on HP-UX the administrater still has to have a look after the physical path, but all layers on top of the 'pseudo device' (e.g. the volume manager) don't need to be maintained.

Re: persistant binding

I hate the S word but... persistant binding can be setup on Sol#$6s boxes in the fcaw.conf files inherent to the HBA install. I take it the a5158a and the 6795 HP HBAs have no such utility?

Re: persistant binding

If Emulex sells an HBA for the model server you have, perhaps they have an lputil to go along with it (just like on Solaris).
