U320 and disk enclosure - model 4354R

What will be the speed on the disks within disk enclosure model 4354R populated with U320 disks - U320 (320) or U3 (160)?
If U3, then what are my options to achieve high 320 speed with external storage? I need at least 7 + 7 drives on separate channels. I can???t find any HP / Compaq product to provide such solution.

You must have a U320 controller to acquire U320 transfer rates. There are solutions out there, even for RAID

Re: U320 and disk enclosure - model 4354R

The SW model 4354R is an Ultra3 capable enclosure, ie the backplane and I/O module only allow for U3 speeds. If you connect and U320 SA controller to it (like the SA-642), the U320 disks will still run at U3 speed.

In short, there are no U320 enclosures from hp (yet).

Thanks, that was my feeling on this as well.

Be the first to test drive the latest HP 9000 Server connectivity solutions!

HP 9000 Server connectivity is always interested in working with customers and partners to help define and test the latest I/O technologies. Currently we have a need for a limited number of beta sites to test Ultra320 SCSI PCI adapters.

* To be considered as a beta site you must have available a PCI based HP 9000 server that is NOT in a production environment.

* HP will provide the required drivers, PCI adapters, and in some cases, peripherals.

Interested parties should contact Brian Lee (brian_lee4@hp.com) for more information.
