3PAR 8200. Disk replacement: Failed - Could not download firmware
Hello
I need to replace a failed drive on 3PAR 8200. It seems it requires the upgrade of the firmware of this new drive (probably because all other disks has higher firmware version - mostly 3P03), but fails to do it, however Internet connection must be working for this host. How can I replace that failed drive?

Re: 3PAR 8200. Disk replacement: Failed - Could not download firmware
Hi giladzzz,
you need to download the software patch that includes the relevant firmware
How can I download that patch then? Do you mean should I update SSMC? (if you mean SSMC - I have quite modern version - 3.8.0.0.330, I downloaded it half a year ago).
to update 3PAR local DB run from CLI "showfirmwaredb"
I have already executed trhat command, please see above.

Re: 3PAR 8200. Disk replacement: Failed - Could not download firmware
Hi
If ssmc is connected to HPE it can download patches directly
but you still need to know the relavant patch or update everything.
the command "showfirmwaredb" just shows you what updates are already in the local 3PAR DB
you can find patches documentation from SPOCK site.
and you can download from https://myenterpriselicense.hpe.com
but you need an existing contract with HPE.
Regards

Re: 3PAR 8200. Disk replacement: Failed - Could not download firmware
Thanks for your answer! giladzzz, Could you please clarify this:
If ssmc is connected to HPE it can download patches directly
How can be SSMC configured to be connected to HPE? (I did not find it neither in SSMC Administrator Guide, nor by exploring the SSMC itself).
Thanks in advance.

Re: 3PAR 8200. Disk replacement: Failed - Could not download firmware
Correct me, if I'm wrong, but with 3PAR 8200 the Service Processor downloads all the Patches and deploys them with "Update" to the Storage.
You can also start this update out of the SSMC, but it only triggers the service processor to do it.
Login to the associated 3PAR Service Processor (Physical or Virtual) and Update as described in this Video:
How to update the HPE 3PAR OS using Service Processor 5.0.5
You may only apply the Drive Firmware Patch as in this example:

Re: 3PAR 8200. Disk replacement: Failed - Could not download firmware
Hello, Cali
Thanks for help. Now it's getting clear. It turned out that our Virtual Service Processor is not connected to the network at all.
And probably it's the reason why we got that initial error message discussed in this thread - "Could not download firmware".
