Hello 3PAR team,
I have a small doubt here about space in 3PAR .... Can anyone help me?
Next, when I install a 3PAR, run OOTB and normally set the spare chunklets to Default, as far as I know, Default means 2 raw disks... right?
Well, in the SSMC during the creation of the CPG, I create, for example, a RAID 6, which means redundancy of 2 disks in this RAID... in this case, in RAID 6 would it be two raw disks ... So in this scenario, the customer can consider 4 raw disks in the final capacity?
And in case of disk failure during production, as redundancy, will the disk configured there in the spare chunklets OOTB be used or will the characteristics of RAID 6 be used as redundancy? Another thing, in the OOTB in spare chunklets as Default, if I have SSD, FC and NL disks, then will there be 2 disks per disk technology?
Regrads,
Carlos Oliveira.

Re: 3PAR space;
Hello @Carlos_Oliveira,
1st questions:
The chunklet sparing level 'Default' is not exactly 2 raw drive's space. Default level reserves around 9% of the overall chunklets from each drives as spare chnklets. This is separate from RAID parity, but an alternate to spare drives in EVA or any other storages. The percentage of spare chunklets will be more in maximal, and less in minimal level. You can change these levels anytime without impacting the data.
2nd question:
In case of default sparing and RAID6, it is not exactly 4 raw drive space is available for data protection. It is around 9% of overall spare chunklets and 2 parity chunklets per logical disk. (a chunklet = 1gb of logical partition space)
3rd questions:
If you are using RAID6, when a drive fails, the spare chunklets will kick in to hold data and some new chunklets will be designated to spare. RAID parity is the next option if enough spares are not available. The sparing level you selected will apply to all the drive types (SSD, FC and NL). You can check that in the command output 'showsys -param' against SparingAlgorithm
