3par volume Defragmentation task failed
Hello
I have an issue that the task called defragmentation is failed .
I have a few question :
This task is system task run in repetitve schedule or when system realize that volume need defragmentation?
It have any relation with defragmenation on the Host operating system ?
If volume is fullly provisioned that it need defrag or not? It only defraged by host OS not by storage?
Only thinly volumes is being defraged by storage system ?
Why this task is being failed ?
Thanks

Re: 3par volume Defragmentation task failed
Hello @Omaroo7,
The system will periodically run the defragmentation task to bring the scattered free space back to the pool (CPG). I believe it it runs at CPG level, not on any volumes and nothing to do with the host OS.
For the reason why the task failed, please try to scroll down for further details of the task. Or you can run the command from CLI 'showtask -d 1763'.

Re: 3par volume Defragmentation task failed
Hello @Omaroo7,
Can you please try to re-run the defrag task? If it still fails, run it again upto 3-4 times to ensure if it was a temporary error due to any issue or recurring.

Re: 3par volume Defragmentation task failed
Hi nutnon,
Open the Putty session.
Run the command compactcpg <name of the cpg>
Note: This may take a while to complete.
For more information on how to run the defragmentation/Compacting please refer to the link given below to watch the video.

Hope this helps.!
