About 3PAR's UI display
Hi,
I would like to know what is displayed on the 3PAR UI screen,
The capacity listed under "Allocated Capacity Panel" is
Is it the total provisioning size or the area where data is actually written?
If you are using thin provisioning, I would like to know if it also includes the reserved virtual volume space where no data is written.
The guide mentions space used for chunklets, including chunklets used for logical drives, spares, and failed capacity, as well as space mapped to virtual volumes, but that is not clear enough, so please provide more details.
Best regards,

Re: About 3PAR's UI display
Hi Account1,
The Allocated Capacity Panel in the Capacity Dashboard tells us the total capacity which is assigned to volumes to store the data.
Total Provisioning Size tells us about how much capacity is used by the data to write.
A Thin Provisioning Virtual Volume (TPVV) will draw the space on demand.
For example
If you create a volume with TPVV of capacity 150GB and there is only 40GB of data that is written, this volume will not block all the 150GB which is allocated while created but can grow up to the 150GB whenever the data is being written.
Whereas a Fully Provisioned Virtual Volume (FPVV) will block all the capacity that is allocated to it.
Hope this helps.!
Regards
Anil
