Drive Capacity - Spare Space Utilization

Hi everyone,

I have SSD disk Manufacturer capacity 1,920 GB with 25% spare.

It is possible to decrease the utilization of spare to have more space for use?
Is there any problem in decreasing the spare percentage?

Thanks.

Alessandro.

Re: Drive Capacity - Spare Space Utilization

Hi tbr2,

It is technically possible to reduce the percentage of spare capacity on an SSD, but it is generally not recommended.
Reduced spare capacity may increase write amplification, reduce performance, and increase the chances of data loss.
In HPE 3PAR storage systems, the default settings and best practices determine how much spare capacity is allocated to SSDs.

Please refer to the below video to change the Sparing Algorithm.

Hope this helps.
