Hello,
We are having issues with our 3Par system, we have just upgraded our 3Par's certificate in preparation of an O/S upgrade and now we cannot connect it back to Service Console. When we try to add it back, we get a list of errors from StoreServe as below.
StoreServ failed to create password file: /sp/conf/arrays/CZ272300KX.cli on SP. Check your network and firewall configurations and make sure the SP and StoreServ can connect to each other.
CLI Error: warning: Command contains unprintable characters: getservversion
Error getting client bytecode from CLI server: unmatched open brace in list.
We have no firewall in the way, and this has been a working system for years with no network changes, so itтАЩs something we have done.
What we have done.
We upgraded the service processor on the 3Par last week to version 5.1.1 and things seemed to go well, we followed the correct upgrade versions for the service processor. But we did not upgrade the O/S and it looks like we are on a unsupported mismatch between the software versions of both devices (SP 5.1.1 for and OS 3.2.2), we tried to upgrade the O/S today and make it all in line but we had a certificate error stopping us upgrading the O/S. The certificate only ran out yesterday (on the 14th) so we decided to sort that so we could proceed with the O/S upgrade. We managed to create a self-signed certificate on the CLI and get it accepted in the Administrator console. The trouble starts when we add it back to the Service console, thatтАЩs when we get the errors above.
I have checked all other aspects of the setup but we have not changed any of the settings so are not sure why itтАЩs telling us to check the network or why we get тАЬgetservversionтАЭ not working either.
I have tried to roll back the service processor upgrade to a compatible version but the UI wonтАЩt allow an older version to be uploaded and if I try to log into the CLI of the Service Processor, I get a '3par service processor unmatched open brace in list' and it immediately closes, all other options in the list appear to work correctly, but this means I canтАЩt use that option atm. So, the errors all appear to indicate that the CLI not functioning as it should and not being able to get to the CLI on the service processor is really stunting our options in fixing this. Someone has recommended redeploying the SP but I cannot see that option anywhere and maintenance mode is only available when I ssh into the service processor but no redeploy commands exist there either.
Basically, we seem to have put ourselves in a sticky situation and would really like some help.

Re: Help Adding Previously Attached 3Par to Storeserve, SP CLI seems to be Bugged?
Hello Savant,
sorry, unable to help, if you do not tell us your Array Model and exact OS Version (3.2.2 MU?).
But you can check the supported Array / OS / SP combination yourself here in the SPOCK.
I would Install a fresh version of the latest SP, that is supported with your OS & Array.
Then Update the Array and if done Install a fresh SP 5.1.1.

Re: Help Adding Previously Attached 3Par to Storeserve, SP CLI seems to be Bugged?
Hi Cali, thanks for responding.
The OS version is 3.2.2MU6 running on a 3Par 8200 and we know it is incompatible with the version we have put on the SP. I think our next stage is to replace the VM on the SP with a compatible version as you mentioned. This is going to be on the 3Par Controller itself rather than on a Hypervisor too.
Is there any info I need to have at hand when we do this such as licence keys, configs etc or is it a straightforward process?
Regards
Savant.

SolutionThe OS version is 3.2.2MU6 running on a 3Par 8200 and we know it is incompatible with the version we have put on the SP.
Why?
It should work, see Matrix above and I have a lot of Customers with this combo and SP 5.1.
This is going to be on the 3Par Controller itself rather than on a Hypervisor too.
You can not Install the SP on the 3PAR Controller.
You have to use a dedicated (supported) HPE Server or Hypervisor (ESX or Hyper-V).
Is there any info I need to have at hand when we do this such as licence keys, configs etc or is it a straightforward process?
Download the SP 5.1 from here, Setup a new SP (OVA Image if ESX).
Than add the 3PAR with its IP and Password as "Already Initialised" and go forward.
No License needed, done in under one hour.
Cali
