HP 3PAR problem Thin Provisioned VV unable to allocate SD space from CPG
Hello, I have a cabin HP 3PAR 7200 with firmware 3.2.1 MU1.
The systema storage is formed by the integrated controllers in which there are 24 enclousure 1.2TB SAS disks.
And a enclousure Disk 3.5 "3TB NL SAS.
The CPGs that are created are the default.
I am migrating an HP EVA8400 and VMware 4.1 with storage VMotion, and even when cloned VMs that are in the Datastores the 3PAR system, I get this error:
"Thin Provisioned VV xxxxxx SD Unable to allocate space from CPG yyyyy"

Re: HP 3PAR problem Thin Provisioned VV unable to allocate SD space from CPG
You should NOT be putting all of the same class drives in the same cage.
The default is "-ha cage" and since you have all in the same cage, you won't be able to allocate any space.
(Otherwise you need to use "-ha mag".)
If you haven't allocated any VVs yet, I suggest you start all over with a more balanced PD arrangement.
You can use showspace to see how much storage you can allocate, based on the type of CPG:
showspace -ha cage -p -devtype FC
showspace -ha cage -p -devtype NL
And retry with cage replaced by mag.
Or to list by CPG use: showspace -cpg cpg-name

Re: HP 3PAR problem Thin Provisioned VV unable to allocate SD space from CPG
I don't think there's a choice.
Those NL drives look like 2TB drives, and AFAIK, the bigger NL drives only come in a LFF size. So he's stuck with HA Mag.

Ah right, he said 3 TB. A showcage would show that.
So you need to create some new CPGs using "-ha mag".
If these are not the default FC_r* or NL_r6 CPGs, you can use "setcpg -ha mag cpg-name"

Re: HP 3PAR problem Thin Provisioned VV unable to allocate SD space from CPG
And, he wrote "The CPGs that are created are the default."
I am assuming it's one of those he's attempting to use.
The system won't create an inoperable CPG, so the FC_* and NL_* CPGs must already be -HA MAG.
So still not sure what the problem is.
Mainland, have you contacted HP Support and opened a case?

Re: HP 3PAR problem Thin Provisioned VV unable to allocate SD space from CPG
Hello, the cabin has this design has been carried out with the official tool HP NinjaStart
19TiB should be free in Raid 5 (3 + 1) SAS disks
29TiB should be free in RAID6 (6 + 2) NL-SAS disks
Check out some commands
showcpg

What I have seen is that if earlier in the CPGs in UNINIT appeared much information and was not zero.

What does "showcpg -sdg" show?

Yes, with enough time the chunklets have been initialized.
