You mention that the "appliance is a ready-to-use Linux-based VM" . Could you please confirm what flavour of Linux (and  version) that is embedded in the appliance  ?

This is the "uname -a" output of an SSMC 3.8.2.0 appliance.

For reference, after you download the updates, do verify the sha256 hashes, below (such as with 7zip, right click the iso file, calculate sha256 hash).

Good morning,  I am trying to upgrade from 3.3.1 to 3.8 on a VM (Kubernetes private managed cloud) . After presenting the iso's to the Data Cloud i created a  new VM and presenting the 3.8.2 iso as the boot image but when i powered on/off the VM and connected by web console it wouldnt book into the s/ware (see images below) so not sure what i need to do to get this software installed on the new VM ?

Hello,

SSMC as an appliance is only supported on VMware-ESX or Microsoft-HyperV. You can try to run it in your environment, but it is absolutly not supported.

The .iso image that SSMC is shipped with, is basically a "DVD" image. So you will need to mount it on a PC or Linux system and then use the appropriate files that are stored on it, to install and/or upgrade.

Sorry I was under the impression that 3.8.2.x was an appliance that was only supported under a VMware environment by
installing over a blank VM ?  We currently have SSMC 3.3.1 installed on a Windows 2016 Server and were looking to migrate (or perform clean install) preferably directly to 3.8.2 (or to 3.8. and then patching) but if im interpreting your feedback correctly we might also have the option to install it onto a Windows Server (after extracting the 3.8.2.x star file ?)

SSMC is provided as a virtual appliance for vmware and hyper-v. 3.8 is the base image and 3.8.2.1 is the patch level. Do not try to boot the iso's directly, it will not work. Mount the iso and the files for installing the appliance can be found within.

As of 3.4 SSMC is no longer available as an installable application in Windows, only as a linux based virtual appliance running in a vm.
