Re: Replace failed disk

Hi Chanatip99,

Yes, you can likely replace the failed disk model HCFP1200S5xeN010 with HCEP1200S5xnN010 in an HPE 3PAR 8200 storage array, as long as:
The replacement drive should be compatible with the drive enclosure and HPE 3PAR 8200 firmware.
Both drives are supported by the same enclosure and firmware version.
The replacement drive is recognized by the system and adheres to the spare disk policy.
Ensure the replacement drive fits the spare disk policy set for the system. The 3PAR system may require that spare disks match the failed disk in terms of type, capacity, and speed.

Hope this helps.

Satish

Re: Query: Replace failed disk

Hi Chanatip99,

There is an issue with the servicemag resume operation on Cage 0, Magazine 14, because the system is unable to update the firmware on the replacement physical disk (PD).
The error "There is no current firmware listed for PD 5000CCA01DC31CA7" indicates that the new disk's firmware cannot be downloaded or recognized by the system.
This can occur due to a mismatch between the disk firmware and the system's installed firmware version.

Please follow the below steps:

Confirm whether the disk model and firmware are supported for your current OS version.
Retry the servicemag resume command after verifying disk compatibility.
If necessary, manually update the disk firmware or replace the disk with a compatible one.
Consider upgrading the 3PAR OS for better firmware support.
This process should help resolve your issue with the failed servicemag operation and ensure the disk is properly recognized and functional.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Satish

Re: Query: Replace failed disk

"Confirm whether the disk model and firmware are supported for your current OS version."

As showfirmwaredb command show

HGST [3P00] HCEP1200S5xnN010 Current DCS1.DCS2.DCN1 /opt/tpd/fw/drive/CP3PA650.bin
HGST [3P00] HCEP1200S5xnN010 Current DC4 /opt/tpd/fw/drive/CobraEP_CP3PA650_3P00_non_SED_Fairway_2498.dlf

Does it mean support, isn't it?

Re: Query: Replace failed disk

Hi Chanatip99,

Yes, the output of the showfirmwaredb command confirms that the disk model HGST HCEP1200S5xnN010 and firmware revision 3P00 are supported by your current HPE 3PAR OS.
As long as your current OS version 3.3.1 MU2 supports the HGST HCEP1200S5xnN010 model, the system should be able to automatically upgrade its firmware during servicemag resume operation.
As the servicemag resume command fails with the error "Could not download firmware," the issue may not be compatibility-related.

The problem could be caused by one of the following:

1. This disk model's firmware files (CP3PA650.bin or CobraEP_CP3PA650_3P00_non_SED_Fairway_2498.dlf) may be corrupted or inaccessible.
2. While updating firmware or initializing the disk, the servicemag resume process may encounter transient issues.
3. The new disk may have hardware issues preventing the firmware upgrade or initialization.
4. The system may be unable to access the firmware files due to a missing path or misconfiguration.

There is indeed support for the HGST HCEP1200S5xnN010 disk model, but the failure to upgrade firmware indicates a deeper issue.
Verify the firmware files, retry the servicemag process, or manually upgrade the firmware to resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists, please reach out to HPE Technical Support with the system logs for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Satish

Re: Query: Replace failed disk

Thank you for reply. I have a more question. Is command "servicemag start" necessary to run before replace failed disk?

Satish04

Re: Query: Replace failed disk

Hi Chanatip99,

The servicemag start command is not strictly necessary to replace a failed disk if chunklets have already been redistributed.
But it is highly recommended for planned maintenance or when multiple disks in the same magazine are affected.
By following the servicemag workflow, disk replacement can be performed smoothly and safely.
In case you are uncertain whether to use servicemag start, run showpdch -from <Disk_ID> to check for remaining chunklets associated with the failed disk.
If chunklets are present, replace the disk first by running servicemag start.

Hope this helps.

Satish
