3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

Hi,

I have a 3440 server which disconnected from n/w imme.when I checked it was OFF condition .I tried for making it ON but it plays a music and gives beep sound. The system status shows RED Led and not powering ON.I checked the logs in the server where all the errors indicate to BMC.I even opened the case and checked the memory modules and still the problem exists.

Any help.

Re: 3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

Shalom,

System status red usually indicates a critical flaw such as a processor failure. A flaw of this type is a High Piority Machine Check(HPMC) and will show in the BMC/GSP logs

Connect to the BMC deice
SL
Choose E for error.

Go through and you should find the problem.

If /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash was set to 1 you should also have a crash dump which you can peform q4 analysis on and send to HP.

Any of the above issues can cause the nasty red flashing light.

Re: 3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

Hello,

I saw a similar problem when the rp34xx first came out a few years ago, it turned out to be the psu. If it has 2 x psu, take one out and try and boot. If still makes funny beeping, put back in and take the other out. Very easy, located at the front, pull handle down whilst pushing blue flap. You would think it would just boot and ignore the faulty psu, ie N from n+1, but in the case i had, when the faulty psu was inserted, it was causing big problems to the entire system/other psu. It could be another problem but it takes 2 mins to check and its been seen before.

Hope it helps

Re: 3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

Hi,

Perhaps you could upload the log file from MP, it will help to determine the problem

ShowLogs -> Errors -> Text

Sandy

Re: 3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

To view the logs.

Connect to the BMC (GSP) or console.
login
default user is Admin
default password is Admin

you will be shown a menu
select option system logs
then press e to select error logs
then press k for keyword
the press L (for last logs)
then hit return a couple of times

capture the output and post it her and I will see if I can help.

Re: 3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

Its probably a Power Pod 0 Fault.
I have experienced this in the past on my Rx4640. Its a condition in which the system will not power on from despite the PS operating normally.

If it is indeed this problem, an HP CE will have to come in to look at it.

Re: 3440 not booting and showing BMC error in logs

Hi There,

There is a identified issue with RP3440, do you get any errors like "PDC_BMC_BT_INTERFACE_FAIL" then pull the AC power
cords and then plug them back in. This will normally reset the BMC and the
system will typically reboot OK afterwards.

Most suspected parts could be

1.The I/O Baseboard (A6961-69x01)
2.The Power Distribution Board (A6961-67015)
3.The Midplane Riser Board (A6961-67005)

Can you attach..
