1) An internal hard drive, 36GB.
2) Terminal for this machine so I can boot it up, set the IP address, etc and then network it.
3) Keyboard.
4) Mouse.
5) HP-UX 11x, are there any versions which are best for it?
Where do I find the product IDs for the above so I can order them?
Thank you in advance.

Re: A400 hardware questions
The internal disk drive 36GB would be A6145A (but no longer orderable).
HP 700/96 Console terminal: C1099A (but secure web console can be used instead, to manage over the web, however no longer orderable).
Not sure you can order any of these any more as the product is no longer available for sale.
This server is supported with 11.0 or 11i v1 (11.11).

Re: A400 hardware questions
As far as I know this machine did not come with a video card by default and there are NOT any keyboard or mouse ports on this machine and not any USB plugs either.
These aren't like PC's.

Re: A400 hardware questions
If there are no keyboard/mouse ports on this machine, how do I set the IP address when I boot it up?
Is a keyboard attached to the 700/96 terminal? That would be fine, I only need to access it once to set the networking information.

Re: A400 hardware questions
1) 36GB Seagate Hot Plug 10k Ultra SCSI Low Profile Disk Drive..$170.00
2) C1002G 700/94 Terminal with Console cable to connect to the A400.. $175.00
3) Keyboard (C3340A) comes with the 700/94 console
4) Mouse - cant use a mouse on the A400 / no graphics options
5) the most common HP-UX for this box is 10.20, 11.00, & 11i - Try HP or ebay for the opp sys
You can find most of this hardware at any HP 9000 reseller, its very common.
hope this helps

Re: A400 hardware questions
I found a retailer who has this hard drive. Do I also need a CD-ROM to install 11x on it, or can I tell them to pre-install it?
Will it work pre-installed or will it have issues seeing some hardware?
Also, will any SCSI CDROM drive work with this A400 machine or must I get an HP product?

Re: A400 hardware questions
---------------------------------------
I was quoted $450 for this drive from one HP vendor, is that really too much? I cannot find it anywhere else however. Do you have a source for your quote, as it's attractive price.
Also, I would need a SCSI CD-ROM drive in case I need to re-install the OS.

Re: A400 hardware questions
I just need to install it - once, maybe reinstall it if I need to. Older style CDROM would be just fine.

you really don't need the DVD capabilities but there is no option for the CD-ROM that interfaces with the A400, that I can find in my book... you can try any external CD ROM, if it works great, if not just get the DVD ROM thats recommended.

Re: A400 hardware questions
Now that web site lists the hard drive in the category of
"3000/N Class Servers Disks "
Are you sure it would work with A400?

Re: A400 hardware questions
3000/A Class Servers Disks
I will call them and ensure that this hard drive can indeed work with what I have. Thank you.
