Adding Disk
Our G30 has 3 internal drives (with a total of 8 gig together) and it says on the info I got that it can have up to 5 internal. So I am assuming with that one, I can add 2 more drives, as long as I don't go over 20 gig.

Re: Adding Disk
Some points:
1) If you are not using any additional SCSI controllers, then all your disk should be SE in E55 and in G30.
2) Before adding disks internal and external, check for free slot/spaces in the systems.
3) Check the SCSI cable for free connectors available for the new disks.
4) Check the Power supply cables for additional free connections. If not, you may have to use a split cable.
5) Take an ouput of 'ioscan -fn' and find out the SCSI id of the disks currently installed ( IMPORTANT !!!). Each devices should have unique SCSI ids. You can check this from the boot console menu too ( search command )
6) Always make industry standard safety precautions before touching any hardwares.

Re: Adding Disk
Are you buying and having HP install these drives? You have to be careful with the G30, because I sort of remember an issue with power supplies and internal drives, which means I don't think it can handle 5 drives (internally).
For your E' what kind of external storage device are you using, and how is it connected to the storage device? A part number would help, or possibly an IOSCAN.

Re: Adding Disk
SE will have 50 PIN low density connector where are FWD will have a 64 PIN high density connector . Most of the time the the external disks that you have on E55 should be in a HAS box ( they use to be the external storage devices during E55 times ) , so you can just add FWD disks to it , howeever in case of the G30 the same is good to go with teh internal drive as the power is sufficient , but then there should be a SCSI connector to the Disk Cage . Also please note that these days u will atleast get moer tahn 9 GB drives so your OS should have the support for those models.
A safe bet is to have HP estimate the disk drives to be attached and install them.

Re: Adding Disk
The 56/52 bus is the internal bus on the E55. The C2490AM disks are half height internal disks. The other disks, the ST15150N, 34573N. and the ST26260N are narrow single ended SCSI. Unfortunately, with the DDS tape drive, you are using addresses 0-6 which is the maximum addresses for SE SCSI. You may need to add an additional interface. The internal disks are 2GB each and the external are 4GB each.

Re: Adding Disk
One other note. The external SCSI interface on the E-55 is the same bus as the internal devices. It is Narrow Single Ended SCSI and the external connector is 50 pin High Density. The Fast Wide Differential is 68 pin High Density.
