Adding memory to HP E35

I have an old E 35 that we are using for testing and want to add memory to its current 32 MB configuration.

It has 8 slots with 4 SIMM modules (8MB each).

I bought 2 original HP SIMM modules (32MB each), but when I install them, machine won't boot. If I remove old 8MB modules, and install only 2
new modules, it also won't boot.

Do you have any idea what is the problem ?
Does the motherboard support 8MB modules only ?
Do they have to be installed in fours (4 modules of the same kind) ?

Re: Adding memory to HP E35

What I know is it support these memory cards..
8MB SIMM A2578-69001
16MB SIMM A2576-69001
32MB SIMM A2575-69001
64MB SIMM A3131-69001
Have you got the right SIMM modules ? They do have to be installed in pairs and I'm not sure about the mix-and-match combo. I have one that has 4x32MB combination.

I found more info ..
Try this ..
Insert the 32MB pair into slot 3B and 3A.
Boot up first and see it it works. Then the 8MB cards, install 'em in these order.

Re: Adding memory to HP E35

Hi,

When upgrading memory, you have to follow the memory rules:

1) Install memory in PAIRS ( it's called a module, 2 SIMM cards).
2) The largest memory SIMM pair must be installed in the lowest numbered slots.

Make sure in your case, you are installing the 32 MB SIMMs in 0A and 0B. That is the lowest numbered slots. Read the manuals or check the board for slot numbering system.

E45 will support 32MB SIMMs.

Re: Adding memory to HP E35

The old modules we have innstalled are 4 * A2578-60001

The new ones I bought, and was told that they work with HP9000,
are 2 * A3511-60001

I tried:
1) installing 2*32MB in slota 0A 0B - doesn't work
2) installing 2*32MB in slota 3A 3B - doesn't work
3) mixing 32MB with 8MB in several different combinations - doesn't work.

BTW, the machine is HP9000 E35 (not 45)

Perhaps these modules are not suported, or E35 doesn't support 32MB ?

Re: Adding memory to HP E35

Hi,

Yes, the 32MB SIMM (A2575-69001) is supported in E35 too !

Another thing to try is to clean the SIMM cards and install back. Install only one type of module ( only 32MBs ) and see whether it detects. Are u sure that these 32MB SIMMs are good ?

Re: Adding memory to HP E35

I'm suspicious about the A3511-60001 pair. Who/where did you buy the memory from ? Another thing to be aware of is E class SIMMs are not compatible with F,G,H,I,K and T class.

Re: Adding memory to HP E35

For parts information, look at partsurfer.hp.com. The 32 meg simms are A2575-60001. A3511-60001 does not show up in the parts listings for any computers.
