Addition of Expansion cabinet with rp7420 or rx7620

Hi,

I need to add additional PCI I/O slots for rp7420.
I want to know whether additional I/O Expansion cabinet could be added to rp7420 and rx7620.
Also I would like to know if additional hdd expansion cabinet could be used with these servers.
Reply wanted urgently.

Hi Kaushik,

Yes, IO Expansion cabinet ( Server Expansion Unit SEU )could be added in case both the servers.

I am not sure about your second question.
But with a SEU you get additional 4 hard drives. You can attach external disk systems like DS2120/DS2405 besides other options.

A SEU only exist on a rx8 or an rp8

If you need extra IO slots in an rp7420 or rx7620 you need to install a second cell board in your server.

Each cell board has the possiblity for 7 Extra IO card.

For HDD expansion cabinet you can choose for DS2100 series or for MSA30

Sorry for my statement about SEU. I should have checked those servers architecture.
Luk is right.

The reason for not having an option of SEU in case of rp7420 or rx7620 is because those are 2 cell-board based servers. Thus you can only have 2 IO domains each controlled by and attached to a cell-board.

In case of rp8400,rp8420,rx8620, there are 4 cell-boards. Hence one can have 4 IO domains. Since 4 IO domains could not accomodated in a single server, SEU option is given.

rp7420 and rx7620 with 2 cells has 14 (or 15) free PCI slots. Remember, that you can use multiport and combo cards, for example:
