This is something you really do NOT want to try to do yourself. You can get in BIG TROUBLE by doing this.

The best thing to do here would be to talk to HP, but be warned that it will probably cost you.

A L1000 can not be converted to MPE, because the L1000 is not supported in the MPE hardware range.

To emphasize the other point the procedure of conversion is strictly HP inhouse.

The sadder news is (as far as i know) ( talking under correction), that HP does not have a HP-UX -> MPE conversion package available for the newer model N4000 and RP7400 and even A-classes.It is possible to convert them(the above listed models) but you can not purchase it. But to go from MPE -> HP-UX that is an easy and relatively cheap "downgrade". ;)

I honestly think that the L1000 and 2000 machines would have made a nice midrange between the A and N classes.

The A class feels a bit light in the pants and the N-class tends to be overkill at times. That is just my thoughts though.

One nice aboput the L-class though is ... it runs HP-UX, the second best thing next to running MPE on it.

Sorry about the bad news

As Mr. Roets wrote, the L-Class servers are not supported on MPE. I was told by HP that HP is not converting HP-UX A and N Class servers to MPE. The only way to get MPE on an A or N is to buy a new HP 3000 HP or a used one from the authorized dealer. In the post 11/14 world little or no new hardware will be available for the HP 3000.
